Yahoo Mail not working

While visiting Crystal Falls library we discovered that on several machines we could not log into Yahoo mail. While struggling to find an answer a patron (Gary) suggested that if you go in and change a setting within IE it will work again. I would like to thank him for the suggestion. Here is what you have to do.

First make sure you thaw Deep Freeze or Remove the public user from the container so you can access the Tools within Internet Explorer.
Login as the public user All/Public/etc.
Right click on Internet Explorer
Go to Properties (left click)
Click on the advance tab
Scroll down until you find the following: Use HTTP 1.1.
Make sure there is a check in this box.
Now you should be able to log in to Yahoo mail.
Don't forget to put the user back in the container or freeze the machine using Deep Freeze

Removing virus from system volume

The system volume is used to do a recovery on your machine. If the virus you machine received has been saved you must delete the system volume in order to delete it. To do this follow these steps:

1. You must be logged in with administrator rights
2. Right click on my computer and go to properties
3. Click on the System Restore Tab and Check the box Turn off System Restore
4. Follow the prompts and restart the machine (this deletes the system volume)
5. When the machine restarts go back in and do steps 2 and 3 unchecking Turn off System Restore so a new point will be created.

This should take care of the virus problem.

Windows 2009/Antivirus 2009

This is a nasty virus that effects machines either through going to a website or through an e-mail. What it does is it will pretend to be an antivirus software that will scan your machine for viruses. If possible when you see it, do the CTRL + ALT + DEL and cancel the webpage that is currently open. If you happen to become infected and need to remove this nasty virus please use this website with great information to remove it. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-removal/uninstall-antivirus-2009

Welcome

I'd like to welcome any librarians or tech staff to my blog. I hope this will be a place to provide information for maintaining public and staff computers in a Library environment. Please feel free to post questions, answers and suggestions to this blog. My emphasis will be on locking down Public Machines, Microsoft Office Products, CybraryN, Deep Freeze, and other software that our Cooperative finds usefull to libraries. WELCOME!!!
